New Neurological Findings and Documentation System Developed at Göttingen University

An innovative neurological findings and documentation system named "NEMESYS" has been developed in the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Göttingen University School of Medicine. As regards content NEMESYS was developed in the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at the University Hospital Göttingen (UKG) by Professor (Prof. Dr.) W. Paulus, Director of the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, and private lecturer (Priv. Doz. Dr. med.) F. Tergau, St. Bernward Hospital in Hildesheim, formerly Department of Clinical Neurophysiology of the UKG. Technically NEMESYS was developed by Dipl. Phys. J. Lessing (Faculty of Physics).

Legislation Promotes Healthcare IT Infrastructure and Patient Data Safety across Europe

Legislation is promoting the development of healthcare IT infrastructure, while supporting efforts to enhance patient data privacy and security across the European healthcare spectrum.

"The HL7 standard, initially adopted in the United States, has subsequently been adopted by most European countries," explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Vinod S.M. "European legislation emphasises the need for stable IT infrastructure and for improved patient data safety."

EU project to launch five RFID pilot tests

Following a year of research and development, the EU-funded BRIDGE project is now preparing five pilots to test Electronic Product Code (EPC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies.

The pilots, scheduled to start in September, will test RFID across several sectors of industry including retail, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, distribution and logistics, and services.

Mid Staffs installs i.CM for orders and results reporting

Clinical staff at Mid Staffordshire General Hospitals NHS Trust are now ordering tests and x-rays and getting results online with iSOFT's i.Clinical Manager (i.CM) application.

A two-month pilot project started this month on two wards at the Staffordshire General Hospital. Roll-out of i.CM to around 60 areas including wards, outpatient departments and clinics at the Staffordshire General and Cannock Chase Hospitals is scheduled to begin in September.

Comment RIDE Project Deliverables

RIDE is a roadmap project for interoperability of eHealth systems leading to recommendations for actions and to preparatory actions at the European level. Petra Wilson and Christopher Nolan appointed HIMSS EMEA Governing Council Chair and Vice Chair

Petra Wilson, a Director for Public Sector Healthcare in Cisco's Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), has been elected Chair of the HIMSS EMEA Governing Council. Christopher Nolan from the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland is appointed Vice Chair. Both were unanimously elected by the HIMSS EMEA Governing Council on 2 July 2007, and will serve for one year, until 30 June 2008.
