UMANICK has been Selected to Join the FIWARE Accelerator VIP Programme

UMANICK has been selected among over 800 European start-ups from different sectors belonging to FIWARE Accelerator to enter its VIP Programme. UMANICK entered the eHealth accelerator of the European Commission, FICHe (Future Internet Challenge eHealth), in January 2015. FICHe is one of 16 FIWARE accelerators operating in different areas, being the only one dedicated to health.

In late 2015, the FI-PPP (The Future Internet Public Private Partnership) introduced the FIWARE Accelerator VIP Programme. It is a set of specific actions to give special support to a small number of emerging companies identified by FI-PPP advisers as businesses with great business development, innovation and internationalization potential.

Of the 100 start-ups that were eligible to join the VIP Programme, only 15 were selected. Two of these selected companies, among which is UMANICK, belong to FICHe and are Spanish.

"13% of the companies in the VIP Programme belong to FICHe, representing 6% of all existing FIWARE accelerators. A real success for FICHe. The two FICHe companies chosen are Spanish and are currently being supported by the Murcia Health Service for its 'Living Lab'. This shows that the Murcia Health Service is doing an excellent job promoting information technology in health," has highlighted Emilio Gallego, CEO of UMANICK.

Specifically, UMANICK is carrying just a pilot project for safe patient identification using biometric technologies in the Onco-Hematology Day Hospital of the University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, in Murcia. In the words of Gorka Sanchez Nanclares, Responsible for Innovation at Murcia Health Service: "The pilot has been successful in regards to acceptance, both among professionals, who have incorporated the fingerprint and iris verification to their usual practice, and among patients, who have mostly chosen this access path versus the usual, in the voluntary approach offered to them within this FICHe research project, part of the Murcia Health Service's 'Living Lab'."

The other start-ups selected for the VIP Programme are: Zebra (Belgium), AlzhUp (Spain), Intoino (Italy), Measurence (Italy), Donkey Republic (Denmark), Ususty (Hungary), Parcellab (Germany), OEEX (Germany), Urbi (Germany), Neuroathome (Spain), Everimpact (France), Sensape (Germany), InReception (Italy) and Leeluu (Finland).

All these start-ups will participate together with UMANICK in a Bootcamp with specialised investors that will take place from the 4th to the 6th of May in Milan.
