Until recently, neuroscientists have had to tediously track each neuron by hand. A breakthrough software tool called CaImAn automates this arduous process using a combination of standard computational methods and machine-learning techniques.

UK Sales of Xanax and other Prescription Psychiatric Drugs Increasing via the Darknet

Sales of prescription psychiatric drugs such as Xanax and diazepam via darknet online drug markets have increased in the UK at an alarming rate, according to new research by the University of Kent and King's College London. The findings validate concerns that non-medical prescription drug use (NMPDU) is becoming increasingly common in the UK and that policy makers need to act to address this issue.

Use of Clinical Apps Significantly Improves Quality of Cardiovascular Care

A pilot program using several clinical decision support tools in the outpatient setting to treat and educate stable ischemic heart disease patients has shown success in improving angina in these patients. Findings from the Florida Cardiovascular Quality Network study were presented at the American College of Cardiology's Cardiovascular Summit in Orlando.

New AI Toolkit is the 'Scientist that never Sleeps'

Researchers have developed a new AI-driven platform that can analyse how pathogens infect our cells with the precision of a trained biologist. The platform, HRMAn ('Herman'), which stands for Host Response to Microbe Analysis, is open-source, easy-to-use and can be tailored for different pathogens including Salmonella enterica.
