A leading global healthcare system, Cleveland Clinic, has launched a landmark study to better understand why millions of people around the world suffer from brain diseases, with the goal of pinpointing disease biomarkers early, well before clinical symptoms present themselves. 
Today the Commission has adopted the second EU4Health work programme. In 2022, the EU4Health will continue to invest in building stronger, more resilient health systems and pave the way for the European Health Union. With a budget of over €835 million, the new work programme will King's College London, in partnership with the University of Strathclyde, has received almost £150,000 share of the funding over one year.
The International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA) sets out recommendations to help regulators to address the challenges that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) poses for global medicines regulation, in a report published today.
AI includes various technologies (such as statistical models, diverse algorithms and self-modifying systems) that are increasingly being applied across all stages of a medicine's lifecycle: from preclinical development, to clinical trial data recording and analysis, to pharmacovigilance and clinical use optimisation.
The EU Digital COVID Certificate Regulation enters into application. This means that EU citizens and residents will now be able to have their Digital COVID Certificates issued and verified across the EU. 21 Member States as well as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein had already started to issue certificates ahead of today's deadline, and five EU countries are starting now. The Commission has adopted the main work programme of Horizon Europe for the period 2021-2022, which outlines the objectives and specific topic areas that will receive a total of €14.7 billion in funding. These investments will help accelerate the green and digital transitions and will contribute to sustainable recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and to EU resilience against future crises.
