The World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering - the triennial scientific meeting of the IUPESM - being held in Munich, Germany, on September 7-12, 2009 is the world's leading forum for presenting the results of current scientific work as well as major innovations in health-related technologies to an international audience. More than 4,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.
On 1-3 April 2009, the Luxexpo Exhibition and Congress Center in Luxembourg will be host again to the international Med-e-Tel meeting. The 7th edition of the annual Med-e-Tel conference will focus on proven and tested telemedicine and ehealth applications and provide evidence on clinical effectiveness and economic efficiency as well as on user aspects and satisfaction.
Since 2007, ENISA has been conducting a series of activities towards developing a comprehensive framework for identifying and assessing emerging and future risks (EFR). As a result of these activities, ENISA has constructed an EFR Framework. The EFR Framework is scenario-based and consists of certain phases for the formulation and analysis of scenarios, mobilisation of the necessary expertise (human resources) to assess and analyse the scenarios and leveraging of the management capabilities to collect and disseminate assessed information (e.g., scenario descriptions, threats, vulnerabilities, assets, impacts, risks, etc.).

Today Europe represents 34% of the global information and communication technologies (ICT) market, and its value is growing by 4% per year. However, the value added produced by the EU's ICT sector amounts to only 23% of the total, because both Europe's market and research efforts are fragmented.

VTT is launching an extensive EU project called ETHERPATHS, studying the effects of dietary effects mediated by gut microbiota on lipid metabolism. The aim is to accelerate the development of health-promoting foods. The project develops computer assisted models with which food companies and research institutions, for instance, will be able to predict the effects of foods in the body.
Presumably effective April 1, 2009, Siemens Medical Solutions GSD GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Healthcare Sector, will take over all use and exploitation rights to the software i.s.h.med, which are today held by T-Systems in Austria. The transfer is subject to customary closing conditions. In addition, Siemens, SAP, and T-Systems Austria plan to intensify their existing cooperation.
The 2nd Edition of the ERCIM-ETSI Infinity Initiative will take place on 2-3 April 2009 at ETSI in Sophia Antipolis, France. This year, the theme of this series of advanced seminars will be "Bio ICT-The Heart in the Computer", with a special focus on "Modelling and Simulation of Organs".
