Med-e-Tel 2009 - Delivering the Evidence on Telemedicine and eHealth

Identifying Emerging and Future Risks in Remote Health Monitoring and Treatment

Since 2007, ENISA has been conducting a series of activities towards developing a comprehensive framework for identifying and assessing emerging and future risks (EFR). As a result of these activities, ENISA has constructed an EFR Framework. The EFR Framework is scenario-based and consists of certain phases for the formulation and analysis of scenarios, mobilisation of the necessary expertise (human resources) to assess and analyse the scenarios and leveraging of the management capabilities to collect and disseminate assessed information (e.g., scenario descriptions, threats, vulnerabilities, assets, impacts, risks, etc.).

Agfa-Gevaert Reports Full Year 2008 Results - HealthCare Segment

Excluding currency effects, sales decreased 8.6 percent to 1,223 million Euro. The traditional film segment continued its market-driven decline. In the second half of the year, Agfa HealthCare's sales figures were affected by the economic slowdown as some care organizations are postponing their investments in Enterprise IT, Imaging IT and Computed Radiography (CR) equipment.

ICW Master Patient Index Passes HITSP Certification and IHE Tests

eHealth specialist InterComponentWare (ICW) has successfully demonstrated its technological leadership in healthcare IT connectivity at the IHE North American Connectathon, the only large-scale interoperability testing event for the healthcare industry. For three years in a row, the interoperability of ICW's Master Patient Index (ICW MPI) has been designated as IHE conformant.

Commission Calls for Doubling Funding for ICT Research and Innovation

Making Europe the world leader in ICT is the goal of the new strategy proposed by the European Commission. Today Europe represents 34% of the global information and communication technologies (ICT) market, and its value is growing by 4% per year. However, the value added produced by the EU's ICT sector amounts to only 23% of the total, because both Europe's market and research efforts are fragmented.

Project Launched by VTT Develops Computer Models for Predicting Dietary Effects on Health

VTT is launching an extensive EU project called ETHERPATHS, studying the effects of dietary effects mediated by gut microbiota on lipid metabolism. The aim is to accelerate the development of health-promoting foods. The project develops computer assisted models with which food companies and research institutions, for instance, will be able to predict the effects of foods in the body.

Siemens, SAP, and T-Systems in Austria Intensify their Cooperation for the Global Healthcare Market

Presumably effective April 1, 2009, Siemens Medical Solutions GSD GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Healthcare Sector, will take over all use and exploitation rights to the software i.s.h.med, which are today held by T-Systems in Austria. The transfer is subject to customary closing conditions. In addition, Siemens, SAP, and T-Systems Austria plan to intensify their existing cooperation.
