The EU's app sector has gone from zero to digital superhero in less than five years. By 2018 it could employ 4.8 million people and contribute €63 billion to the EU economy according to a report presented in Brussels. The study, carried out by GIGAOM and NUI Galway for the European Commission, shows that Europe's app developers are up to the challenge of taking the global lead. Currently, EU and North American developers generate the same levels (42% each) of app revenues in crucial EU and US markets.

Following a successful pilot programme to automate their paper-based pre-operative assessment process within the orthopaedic outpatient clinic, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) has signed a five year contract with Caradigm to deploy its solutions trust-wide. The pilot used the Caradigm Intelligence Platform and self-service kiosks to collect pre-op assessment data from clinicians and patients.
An urgent care centre (UCC) in a deprived part of east London is meeting national targets to prevent admissions to A&E, with the help of state-of-the-art technology from EMIS. The centre, attached to the A&E department at Newham Hospital, part of East London NHS Foundation Trust, is using the company's transformational clinical system EMIS Web to care for over 70,000 patients a year and prevent avoidable A&E admissions.
