FDA Authorizes First Robotically-Assisted Surgical Device for Performing Transvaginal Hysterectomy

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized marketing of the Hominis Surgical System, a new robotically-assisted surgical device (RASD) that can help facilitate transvaginal hysterectomy in certain patients. The Hominis Surgical System is intended for benign hysterectomy (removal of the uterus for non-cancerous conditions) with salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of one or both fallopian tubes and ovaries).

Joined Up Care Derbyshire Starts Shared Care Record Journey with Orion Health

Health and social care organisations in Derbyshire are working with Orion Health to meet the government's target to have a shared care record in place by September - known in the contract jargon as the 'minimum viable solution'.

Joined Up Care Derbyshire, an integrated care system covering Derby, Chesterfield, and surrounding areas, has signed a ten-year contract with Orion for its shared care record technology and Discover analytics platform, following a rapid procurement using the London Procurement Partnership framework.

Child Brain Tumours can be Classified by Advanced Imaging and AI

Diffusion weighted imaging and machine learning can successfully classify the diagnosis and characteristics of common types of paediatric brain tumours a UK-based multi-centre study, including WMG at the University of Warwick has found. This means that the tumour can be characterised and treated more efficiently.

The largest cause of death from cancer in children are brain tumours in a particular part of the brain, called the posterior fossa.

Digital Treatment for Osteoarthritis Superior to Traditional Routine Care

First-line treatment of knee osteoarthritis is effectively delivered digitally without a need for traditional face-to-face physiotherapy visits, a new study finds. The research, independently undertaken by the University of Nottingham, led by Prof Ana Valdes from the Nottingham NIHR Biomedical Research Centre using Joint Academy's clinical and evidence-based digital treatment for chronic joint pain, addresses a rapidly growing health concern as hospital waiting lists are mounting while the NHS is expected to spend £118.6 billion on treating arthritis between 2017 and 2027 alone.
