iSOFT becomes VAR for Motion's C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant

iSOFTiSOFT has signed a worldwide agreement with Motion Computing to become the first UK-based solutions reseller for Motion's C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA).

Launched in February, the Motion C5 is the first product based on Intel's MCA platform. iSOFT was involved in the main UK trial of the mobile device at Salford Royal NHS Foundation trust and has since seen huge interest in the product.

Marc Horowitz, iSOFT's group business development director, says the C5 offers a major opportunity for iSOFT in the NHS and worldwide among its 8,000 customers. "We have seen that mobile devices achieve high levels of user satisfaction among doctors since they support decisions at the point of care," Horowitz said. "Mobility transforms care by helping doctors and care providers deliver the highest quality of care, which is beneficial for them and for patients."

Nigel Owens, Motion Computing's head of EMEA, says iSOFT is an "excellent partner in Motion's go-to-market solutions model". MCA is the "missing link" says Dr Mike Bainbridge, NHS Connecting for Health's clinical architect. "It is the one thing clinicians having been looking for," he said. "The fact that we can get information with greater ease and genuinely collaborate for the first time is a major breakthrough. MCA's features, tailored to clinical use will show some real benefits."

Dr Bainbridge has collaborated with Intel since 2002 to ensure that the design of the MCA is relevant to clinicians and says improved safety is another major attraction. "The MCA is optimised to reduce risk, which is especially vital during the handover of care and at the point of administering prescriptions. With in-built barcode and RFID readers for patient identification and to validate medications, the process is simplified and the risks reduced dramatically."

"MCA is a major advance in mobile healthcare computing and puts computer technology into care environments safely," Horowitz added. "Having real-time clinical information to support decisions at the point of care will reduce errors and save valuable time, which are significant benefits to clinical staff and patients alike. To improve the quality of healthcare and staff workflow, it is vital to have timely and accurate information at the point of care."
