CSAM Targets UK Healthcare Market for Clinical Information Portal

CSAM, the Norwegian based specialist developers of interoperable clinical software solutions, has targeted the UK healthcare market at a critical time. With budgets under pressure and NHS Trusts tackling a number of UK Government policy initiatives, the CSAM solutions have been designed to specifically deliver against the current shift in NHS strategies to 'connect all, not replace all'. Not only that, but CSAM's innovative technology can deliver solutions in line with the Department of Health's quality, innovation, productivity and prevention (QIPP) agenda and the Operational Efficiency Programme (which has set 20 percent savings targets to be made on government ICT projects), as well as national healthcare project integration and support programmes.

With it solutions now available in the UK, at the heart of the company's offering is the CSAM® Plexus™ Clinical Information Portal and integration engine. Based on proven technology, the Plexus™ solution has been developed as a web-based portal designed specifically to integrate existing NHS Trust systems to enable patient information to be viewed from a single, unified point of access. By enabling Trusts to connect disparate systems the portal approach not only protects existing IT investments but also eliminates the necessity to 'rip and replace'.

From its experience of delivering the Plexus™ solution in a number of large hospital sites across Norway and Sweden, CSAM can clearly demonstrate the benefits of its deployment and applicability to UK healthcare. For example, at Oslo's national Rikshospitalet the Portal has been used to successfully integrate over 20 systems and at Ulleval, Norway's largest hospital, the Plexus™ solution portfolio is providing unified patient administration access to multiple hospitals. Because of the proven success this is now attracting interest from UK Trusts who can see the benefits from adopting this portal approach.

Also key is the fact that, not only will the Plexus™ solution integrate NHS clinical and administrative applications residing inside NHS Trusts, but will also connect with other NHS or other social and community welfare organisations. Effectively this will facilitate the sharing of information between healthcare professionals within one hospital as well as across departments, other hospitals and clinics. This means that Trusts will be able to deliver to clinicians and administrative staff, streamlined access to secure, real-time patient data at the precise point in the care pathway, whatever their location.

Commenting Glenn Kenneth Bruun, Chief Innovation Officer, CSAM said: "I truly believe the portal approach to connecting systems may be the only viable route to creating joined-up healthcare delivery. By bringing all the data about a patient to a single, accessible point will ensure that the right information is delivered to the right people at the right time - which can surely only improve continuity of care. And by giving clinicians the latest and the fullest picture, clinical information portals will save time, improve clinical productivity and patient safety, and give the patient a better experience."

"Plus at a time when budgets are tighter than ever, seeking to replace everything within one system is simply not a viable, affordable alternative. Our objective therefore, is to help UK healthcare organisations improve the quality of patient care whilst reducing the costs of providing services."

Other solutions CSAM is introducing to the UK market include Partus™ and OncoSuite™. Partus™ is a specialist maternity system designed specifically for clinicians to help provide quality care through the entire maternity process and post natal care. It can be linked to general health information systems and electronic patient records (EPR), as well as medical equipment such as CTG and fetal electrocardiographic monitoring systems. By providing real-time information support through the maternity process, the system reduces the risk of human error and the need for paper records, improves the quality and accessibility of information therefore enhancing consistency of care.

The OncoSuite™ solution is a modular based system designed to support all aspects of clinical cancer care. Specifically designed by clinicians, this solution offers the ability to support the multidisciplinary treatment of cancer patients by facilitating the sharing of information and knowledge between healthcare staff. By tracking the patient journey through the process of care, the system provides best practice through evidenced based clinical decision support.

James Ormonde, UK Sales & Marketing Director commented: "This is a crucial time for CSAM to be targeting the UK healthcare market. Having already established reference sites in three countries and two continents, our technology is proven and tested so we know our solutions can address the policy challenges and issues the UK healthcare system currently faces. To rise to the stringent efficiency programmes, Trusts are realising that they have to look at new ways of working and that innovative technology is key to achieving this. It's about doing more with less and meeting the needs of healthcare staff, the organisation and most importantly the patient and our solutions can do just that."
