The European Commission is launching a tender for two studies to survey and analyse progress on the digital transformation of the health and care in the EU, in particular with regard to citizens' access to their electronic health records (EHR) in the EU Member States and the development, adoption and use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the health and care sector in the EU.

Advanced therapies are a major part of new Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) Calls for proposals. The two advanced therapies topics aim to accelerate research into advanced therapies for rare diseases, and support the development of engineered T cells to fight cancer. Other topics in the Calls address artificial intelligence; the need for reliable, relevant health information; and ways of incorporating patients' views and experiences into healthcare and cancer clinical trials.

X-rays of arms and legs are among the most frequent diagnosis processes used by NHS Scotland, with around 5,000 procedures annually. Although injuries in these areas are often categorised as minor, misdiagnosis and mismanagement can hamper recovery and lead to financial cost. However, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning could help create systems that prevent misdiagnosis.

A range of factors is responsible for the (re-)emergence of infectious disease threats, including antimicrobial resistance, altering the epidemiology and spread of disease in a changing global environment. These include drivers such as climate change and associated environmental impacts, population growth, unplanned urbanisation and high mobility, as well as animal husbandry or intensive farming practices.

In the past years several open service platforms for Active and Healthy Ageing domains have been developed, originating from the medical, independent living, and IoT domain. These platforms aim at building a common basis for application development, assuring interoperability at the application and service level, and reducing development cost by re-use of components.

Senior people are statistically at greater risk of cognitive impairment, frailty and multiple chronic health conditions with consequences for their independence, their quality of life (and the one of their families) but also for the sustainability of health and social care systems.

New open access tools for drug development, obesity, and the environmental impacts of medicines are the focus of a new IMI2 Call for proposals launched today. The total budget of the Call is over EUR 80 million. Half of this comes from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 programme and will fund the participation in the projects of universities, small and medium-sized companies, patient groups etc.

In its second and final open call for application experiments, DIATOMIC is offering a total of €1.610.000 equity-free funding plus acceleration services to the best startups/ SMEs and Competence Centers across the European microelectronics industry.

The ITU Focus Group on 'AI for Health' (FG-AI4H), created in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has issued a Call for Proposals to identify compelling use cases of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in strengthening health services and overarching health systems.
