Soarian Health Archive Enables Enhanced Archiving and Documentation Management at European Clinics

SiemensSiemens Healthcare announced that Soarian Health Archive, its digital archive and document management solution, provides enhanced archiving and document management functionality for different kind of documents and data that occur in a hospital. The Soarian Health Archive platform is based on the archiving solution from yanistra GmbH, a subsidiary of the Gesellschaft fuer Systemforschung und Dienstleistungen im Gesundheitswesen mbH (GSD). Since March 1, 2007, the GSD operates under the name of Siemens Medical Solutions GSD GmbH; yanistra was integrated on October 1, 2007.

The functionality of Soarian Health Archive fulfills many of the demands for a digital archive and documentation management system, particularly for the German and European markets. "One of the particular strengths of Soarian Health Archive is its seamless interoperability with Siemens hospital information systems such as medico//s, CLINICOM, and i.s.h.med; and it is planned for future development of Soarian," explains Karin-Marie Tretter, head of the Medicine and Care business area of Siemens Medical Solutions GSD GmbH. "We have set the course for the future with this strategic solution from Siemens," she emphasizes. HIS solutions from other manufacturers, as well as sub-systems and special systems, digital cameras, and imaging systems, can also connect with Soarian Health Archive.

Soarian Health Archive goes beyond the patient file to seamlessly combine multiple archiving scenarios into a single, centralized storage solution. The archiving functions of Soarian Health Archive are not limited to the traditional contents of a patient record in that the solution offers a full and comprehensive document management and archiving solution for the enterprise. Non-clinical documents, such as financial, personnel and contractual documents, can easily be archived. Additionally, many formats are recognized by and can be archived in Soarian Health Archive, including e-mails, e-mail attachments and Microsoft Office files.

Soarian Health Archive also offers a free-text search function which enables users to retrieve any and all relevant archived information from the HIS without changing programs. With Soarian Health Archive, it is possible to integrate OCR systems for character recognition, allowing scanned documents to be included in full-text searches. Soarian Health Archive can also be used for research in patient records and documents independently of the HIS.

In addition to providing users a quick and easy way to search for patient data and archived documents, Soarian Health Archive helps to create greater efficiency and potential cost-savings across the enterprise. By offering a way for care givers to search for electronically archived patient information, Soarian Health Archive is helping to reduce the amount of time these care givers might spend in trying to locate and access hard-copy information from their archives departments. Also, by offering a way to archive critical patient information and administrative documents electronically, Soarian Health Archive can potentially help hospitals to reduce the space necessary and costs associated with storing large amounts of paperwork.
