Professor of Medical Informatics

The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Medicine, one of Germany's top medical schools in research and teaching. The professorship will be part of the Institute of Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology at TUM's university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar, which focuses on translational information processing, information integration, information security and data privacy. The institute is coordinating the consortium DIFUTURE (Data Integration for Future Medicine) as part of the German Medical Informatics Initiative and is participating in CRC 1321.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the position include research and teaching, and the promotion of early-career scientists. The teaching load includes courses in the subject area and fundamentals courses offered by the department, as well as courses for other TUM schools and departments.

We seek to appoint an expert for the development and implementation of:

  • innovative information systems for translational medicine, research and/or health care
  • informatics concepts for integration and analysis of heterogeneous data
  • innovative concepts for the protection of highly sensitive data
  • decision support systems
  • concepts and methods of digital medicine and digital health.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who has demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, regarding the relevant career level. Pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. Candidates are expected to be fully committed to conducting interdisciplinary research in collaboration with TUM scientists and relevant groups in Munich and in the greater Munich area, especially in the area of bioinformatics. Moreover, candidates should possess a proven ability to establish, acquire and lead competitive and cooperative research projects in medical informatics. Profound knowledge in system architectures, software development, ontologies and standards, as well as profound knowledge in informatics concepts for the fields of information systems, data integration, Big Data in medicine, security and privacy is expected.
