New Software Delivers iPad Consultations for GPs

EMISGPs have entered a new era of mobile working with the rollout of software that enables them to carry out patient consultations on any tablet device. After successful pilots with a number of early adopters, the UK's leading GP software provider EMIS has begun making its mobile solution available to GP practices using the company's EMIS Web healthcare system.

EMIS Mobile is a UK first - allowing clinicians to access their clinical record system across all the main tablet platforms - from iPads to Android and Windows 8.

Initial research by EMIS shows a growing interest in mobile working among GP users, reflecting the upward trend in mobile working among the general population. GPs can work in EMIS Web on and offline to provide safer, more streamlined care to patients even in areas where there is no connectivity. As of December 2012, EMIS Web had been installed in 1,676 GP practices. EMIS Mobile is also being made available now to community, child health and mental health clinicians who use EMIS Web.

Dr Shaun O'Hanlon, clinical and development director at EMIS said: "This is a very exciting development for our users. It is much more than an app - it is a sophisticated, function-rich clinical system on the GP's preferred tablet device, fully integrated into their practice system.

"Clinicians will be able to conduct fully coded assessments and consultations, access their appointment book and diary, create tasks for follow ups and referrals and capture key information for QOF and Community Information Data set purposes.

"The most modern technology is now at clinicians' fingertips, helping them to save time and paperwork and drive up standards of patient care."
