Royal Cornwall Hospital Integrates with National Breast Screening Service System

Siemens HealthcareThe Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has streamlined its breast imaging process to deliver faster, more efficient reporting with full connectivity to the National Breast Screening Service (NBSS) system. The six syngo® MammoReport workstations from Siemens Healthcare also link with the existing Local Service Provider's (LSP) Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for storage and evaluation.

The MammoReport workstation is a high speed solution for reading and reporting mammograms in both screening and diagnostics settings. All six units are situated at the Royal Cornwall Hospital's Breast Care Unit, the Mermaid Centre. Three are located in individual Ultrasound rooms and another three are in dedicated reporting rooms. Its multi-modality compatibility means that the Trust can now pool breast imaging data from mammography, MRI and ultrasound onto the same software platform for simpler reading and reporting.

Being connected to the NBSS system enables the Trust to securely draw down worklists and image data from both their mobile and static digital mammography systems plus view the necessary images at any of the workstations. This new approach to connectivity is helping to smooth the breast screening process at the Trust, with easier and faster reporting steps, creating more efficient workflow.

With extremely fast image loading, up to eight images can be called up for review by MammoReport. The workstation also customises the entire reporting process to individual requirements and features a simple, intuitive user interface. All six workstations are linked through the PACS to three MAMMOMAT Inspiration™ Full Field Digital mammography systems from Siemens Healthcare at the Mermaid Centre. The Inspirations are a new addition the Trust as part of a mammography portfolio refreshment.

"Having this technology in place will allow us to further improve our service to the patient, ensuring that we are delivering the best possible experience with the technology available."
