Orion Health Provides Secure Mobile Access to Patient Information

Orion HealthOrion Health, the leader in eHealth technology, has announced the release of Orion Health Mobile, providing clinical staff with real-time secure access to relevant and accurate patient information from their Apple mobile devices. Orion Health Mobile leverages the prevalence of personal smart mobile devices to help improve clinical workflows and positively impact patient outcomes by removing the reliance on computer workstations within clinical care settings. The application provides clinicians with a range of capabilities aimed at increasing efficiency, enhancing patient care and reducing administrative costs, including:
  • Customised patient work lists accessed via an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that allows clinicians to view results that are pre-defined and available in Orion Health Clinical Portal
  • Real-time patient results viewer that provide quick access to clinically-relevant and historical data
  • Simple and effective application architecture that supports efficient search of all patients for whom the clinician is responsible and provides direct patient drill-down capabilities
  • Single-click functionality that gives users the ability to prioritise and mark particularly relevant results, and creates clear and efficient navigation paths to urgent results in need of regular and/or urgent review
  • Functionality for viewing and signing off on all relevant patient results and reports

Orion Health has also announced the introduction of the Orion Health Mobile Enablement Platform, which further extends the capabilities offered by Orion Health solutions. The Orion Health Mobile Enablement Platform provides hospitals and health systems with the tools needed to develop custom mobile applications to facilitate enhanced patient care. Through the provision of application programming interfaces (APIs), healthcare organisations and third parties can build applications to support on-going care initiatives and to enable further enhancements in the accessibility of relevant and accurate health information for clinicians and patients alike. Most recently, Orion Health Mobile Enablement Platform was used to create a mobile child health record, enabling parents to view and update health information via a customised iPhone and Android application specifically designed and developed by a third party to best meet the region-specific needs.

With over 20 years experience Orion Health prides itself on designing elegant software that promotes ease of use, yet is engineered for operational excellence. According to Orion Health Chief Technology Officer, Chris Stevens, the creation of a range of health specific mobile applications was the next logical step in delivering functionality that will help shape the health industry in the coming five years.

"We understand that there is a growing expectation in our industry for mobile based services that provide an opportunity to manage and optimise workflow. In Orion Health Mobile we have created a health specific, native application that will directly help clinical staff improve the quality of care that they deliver, now and in the future with solutions for additional form factors in development."

According to IDC Health Insights, the increasing popularity of mobile devices, driven largely by the uptake of mobile phones and tablet devices, engenders the need for healthcare provider organisations to consider mobile technology initiatives to boost their existing or upcoming service transformation efforts, both in areas of hospital process streamlining and wellness outreach programs beyond hospital walls.*

Orion Health Mobile is currently available for iPhone devices with additional form factors, including an iPad version, to be available in the future. Orion Health Mobile is available now for download exclusively from the iTunes Store.
