Catholic Hospital at Erfurt Goes Live with iSOFT Portal

iSOFTThe catholic hospital St Johann Nepomuk at Erfurt, Germany, is the latest iSOFT customer to install its new portal under moves to strengthen ties with local GPs, increase efficiency of treatment processes and cut costs by maximizing existing resources.

The portal is integrated with an existing iSOFT ClinicCentre hospital information system (HIS) to provide seamless access to all clinical information for external experts and all providers involved in the care process.

The iSOFT Portal was selected after a review of alternative solutions because it is based on standard web technologies, its functional scope and is highly flexible so fits the hospital's need for interoperability. The move is part of the hospital's innovative and sustainable IT and marketing strategy to strengthen bonds with regional GPs.

The iSOFT Portal is already installed at hospitals at Unna and Rheine, giving local GPs access to hospital records and allowing them to make patient appointments. Under iSOFT's Smart Solutions strategy, these new components are designed to sit alongside existing iSOFT solutions, but also give customers the opportunity to start on an incremental path to the full Lorenzo suite of patient and clinical applications.

Advantage: workflow-based Integration
With the implementation of the iSOFT Portal, the hospital in Erfurt has chosen to implement a sustainable IT strategy. With seamless integration of iSOFT's HIS, doctors can safely and conveniently accesses specifically defined treatment data, such as medical, surgical and laboratory reports.

Also, the high data protection requirements are met within the system. The workflow-based integration of all stakeholders in a joint communication and planning platform will ensure that all necessary permissions and processes, as well as a variety of automated security compliance rules, are met. The integrated data management agreement process allows the hospital to specifically define which doctors have access to which data concerning treatment of individual patients. By entering this permission directly into the HIS all external specialists can access the relevant data in a timely way. The rapid availability of treatment data and reports helps shorten treatment processes and ensures the quality of services provided.

"Important to us was especially the seamless integration of a solution that supports the building of a stronger bond with our local referring physicians," says Andreas Wundrak, IT manager at Catholic Hospital Erfurt. "The decisive factors in project implementation were also the issues of privacy and permission management. iSOFT has convinced us here with a fully integrated approach, which allows a sophisticated and secure integration of external service providers."

In the project implementation phase, other important findings about the requirements of portal systems in healthcare and their implementation were also achieved and will further be collected. A good example is the area of data security. In progress of the implementation iSOFT has integrated new RSA SecurID components into the platform that will make the authentication processes in the system safer much more efficient. These and further progresses in dealing with new technologies and their relevance to the industry will be transferred in the future into projects with other customers so they can profit from new acknowledgements.

With the go live of the iSOFT Portal, the Catholic Hospital in Erfurt now has a robust solution to enable and implement concepts of regional integrated health care concepts. Through interdisciplinary collaboration with regional referring physicians, resources can be optimized in future, the quality of care increased and the economic position of the house can be improved significantly by constantly occupancy.
