Microsoft is Closing its HealthVault Service

MicrosoftMicrosoft is notifying via e-mail the registered users of the HealthVault platform that the service will become unavailable on November 20, 2019. HealthVault is a service for storing personal health and medical records and information (a.k.a. PHR) so they can be shared with health professionals. The text of the e-mail from Microsoft reads:

"We are reaching out to you because you are a registered user of the HealthVault service. We are providing you this notice to ensure you are aware of an important development:

"The Microsoft HealthVault service will be shut down as of November 20, 2019.

"Data you have in your HealthVault account will be deleted effective November 20, 2019. If you wish to keep the data in your account, you need to take action now to transfer that data from your HealthVault account.

"Please take appropriate action to move your data or information you may have stored in your HealthVault account. To help customers that wish to transfer their data out of HealthVault, several options are available and described below..."

It seams that HealthVault has many of the same issues faced by its competitor Google Health. Google Health was introduced in 2008 and discontinued in 2011 because of low user adoption.

The abandoned Microsoft's HealthVault and Google Health could drive the success of the promising Apple Health Records system from Apple.

PS: Where two are fighting, the third wins.
