Ascom Myco Healthcare Smartphone Successfully Completes MobileIron Tests for Android Compatibility

AscomThe Ascom Myco smartphone, one of the world's first smartphones purpose-built for healthcare environments, has successfully completed the MobileIron Android Self Testing Program. This demonstrates that the Ascom Myco supports the Google-standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) used by MobileIron (NASDAQ: MOBL), the leader in mobile enterprise security.

"Successfully completing these tests underscores the suitability of the Ascom Myco for the security-conscious healthcare sector," says Henrik Sandberg, Alliances Manager at Ascom Wireless Solutions. "Among other things, it shows that IT managers and administrators have central control over all Ascom Myco handsets in a particular hospital or facility. For example, should an Ascom Myco managed by MobileIron go missing, administrators can remotely perform a complete data wipe."

Other critical functions enabled by the APIs include device locking, location with GPS, the remote installation of a Root Certification Authority, and the remote enforcement of security policies.

"These and other functions," comments Sandberg, "give healthcare ICT administrators the remote, centralized tools they need to protect confidential patient data. The Ascom Myco is designed to share healthcare information, but it is also designed to keep it secure."

"Ascom Myco's successful test illustrates the accelerating adoption of mobile devices across multiple industries," said Jeff Ratzlaff, Vice President, Business Development, MobileIron. "What's particularly exciting about the Ascom Myco is its healthcare-specific focus. It not only runs on the open Android system, able to support a host of healthcare apps, but it is also compatible with the APIs we use to deliver enterprise security."
