Ascom Introduces Integrated Platform that Keeps Patients and Caregivers Connected

AscomAscom, a leading supplier of Healthcare ICT solutions, has developed an enhanced interface connecting the Ascom Unite middleware platform with the Ascom teleCARE IP nurse call system. This enhanced interface delivers advanced messaging behavior, improved staff assignment options and increased visibility of all nurse call message alerts through a central display. These enhancements enable enterprise-wide deployment of a comprehensive Ascom communications and messaging portfolio especially designed for healthcare. This release is focused on the European market.

"This new interface not only connects Ascom Unite with the Ascom teleCARE IP nurse call system, it can also be enabled to support other clinical systems like patient monitoring. The new solution will increase staff mobility and streamline workflows supporting improved patient health and safety," says Patrick Van Ryzin, VP, Patient Systems, Ascom and continues.

"The integrated platform keeps caregivers and patients connected via wireless devices for timely and appropriate response. It also prioritizes alerts based on pre-defined parameters for optimal decision-making in handling patient requests. In addition it has activity logging that supports audit capability and management reporting."

The improved staff assignment capability provides a single assignment interface for multiple clinical systems including nurse call and patient monitoring. This not only enables quick and easy allocation of staff across departments to deliver patient-centered care, but also eliminates the need for managing redundant assignment tasks across multiple systems. A single assignment interface also decreases the risk of error and improves staff compliance.

Another enhancement of this advanced interface is a central dashboard which can display all nurse call and patient monitor alerts across an entire unit. This dashboard list of current alarm conditions allows managers and nursing to keep in touch with active patient alarms and alerts in a central location. It provides an important secondary notification of alarms allowing care providers to better manage overall responsiveness and balance patient assignments.

"At the end of the day it's all about responding to patients' needs in the fastest, most appropriate way, while reducing some of the burden on busy caregivers. Ascom delivers this and more with this new interface between Ascom Unite and teleCARE IP," Van Ryzin concludes.
