HomeMonitor Enhances Safety and Security for Older and Vulnerable People

With added pressures on the government to reduce spending in health and social care, local services are feeling the strain to find cost effective solutions that allow residents to continue living at home, reducing unnecessary admittance to residential care and GP callouts. With ongoing budget cuts to community services, the responsibility all too often falls to friends and family to ensure that older or vulnerable relatives are safe and secure in their own homes.

HomeMonitor, from award-winning manufacturer Y-cam, is a simple and affordable system that allows carers and relatives to keep an eye on those closest to them by viewing live and recorded footage, from anywhere in the world and on virtually any computer, smartphone or tablet. Featuring timed recording capabilities, the HomeMonitor is easy to set up and can record motion during pre-set times to coincide with any scheduled visits, and the free notifications service will alert you to any unusual activity. The recordings are then stored to the cloud for seven rolling days, free of charge.

HomeMonitor can provide 24-hour supervision for those who may wander out of the home, at risk of falling, or causing harm to themselves accidently. It can also be used to record activities at the front door, capturing any unwanted or aggressive doorstep salespeople. With both indoor and outdoor cameras available, users can monitor front doors, gardens and interior rooms such as kitchens, via a range of devices including tablets, PC's and Smartphones, wherever they are.

Devin Chawda, CEO of Y-cam said: "We live in an aging society and as we get older, we become more aware of the fact that we need to provide safety and security for those close to us who are getting older or perhaps dealing with an illness. While we would like to make daily visits to our relatives to ensure they are keeping safe, other commitments such as work or distance force us to make some difficult choices.

"While it is not a replacement for personal contact, HomeMonitor allows us to see our loved ones at times when we can't be there. In this way, we can be rest assured that if there was a situation, such as a family member falling ill or injuring themselves, we can call for help far quicker than if we were to wait for someone to find them."

With features including motion detection and infrared LEDs for night time viewing, HomeMonitor offers the added reassurance that valuable footage, such as disturbances or night wandering, can be caught on camera and stored for future use. In the same way, the camera can be used to simply keep an eye on a person, regardless of whether anything has occurred.

HomeMonitor is also the first wireless video monitoring service that offers Wi-Fi enabled indoor and outdoor cameras, providing true cloud-based viewing and recording. HomeMonitor Indoor (£149.99) and HomeMonitor Outdoor (£249.99) both include unlimited live viewing, unlimited email alerts and seven rolling days of free online storage.

HomeMonitor is now available for remote viewing through PCs, Macs, iOS and Android smartphones, tablets and Roku media streaming players.
