Docobo Introduces ComCare's Wound Management Solution

DocoboDocobo Ltd, one of the UK's leading suppliers of Telehealth, Risk Stratification and Community products and services is introducing the Wound Management capability within its ComCare Community system as a separate capability in response to interest from Community and Homecare providers.

Adrian Flowerday, Docobo's CEO said "Wound management generates a significant and increasing strain on care resources. In the UK, chronic wounds represent a significant burden to patients and the NHS. Some 200,000 patients in the UK have a chronic wound. The cost to the NHS of caring for patients with a chronic wound is conservatively estimated at £2.3bn–£3.1bn per year (at 2005–2006 costs) around 3% of the total estimated out-turn expenditure on health (£89.4bn) for the same period.

"Wounds need to be managed in the most effective manner possible to ensure the highest quality of care and to contain costs. Community Care organisations need to promote best practice techniques and materials to achieve increased productivity and efficacy of care. To support our clients to address these issues, Docobo has released its Wound Management System as part of its consolidated approach to support community provider units with exemplar systems."

Wound Management Solution
Originally developed by Docobo's partner Silver Chain, the largest home nursing organisation in Australia, ComCare's comprehensive Wound Management solution:

  • Accurately maps the wound healing against a defined treatment regimen
  • Maintains an up-to-date register of all consumables per wound and per individual
  • Produces accurate data to support wound care choices
  • Generates best practice plans of care
  • Benchmarks healing outcomes by client, service location, organisation-wide and nation-wide
  • Implements early preventive measures to improve healing outcomes
  • Provides a better quality of care

ComCare's Wound Management system operates using mobile phone technology through which care staff are able to photograph the wound and have the picture transmitted in real time to a database with the patient's previous images. The latest image is then compared to the previous images so progress can be measured and the efficacy of the treatment reviewed

Docobo's Wound Management module is a component of its ComCare Community System, a modern enterprise community system designed to meet the operational and planning needs of community and social services care providers from a single system. Its components include administration, scheduling and community rostering, clinical assessments, wound management, contract management, travel management including integration with Google Maps, fleet management, equipment and supplies, organisation and staff records, training, occupational safety and health and incorporated business intelligence.
