IMS MAXIMS Bedside Offers a Smarter Future for Healthcare

IMS MAXIMSClinicians can update patient records at the bedside, or be instantly alerted to changes in their condition from the other side of the country, thanks to the latest advance from IMS MAXIMS. A new and highly-configurable iPad and iPhone application (App) provides access to patient records for staff on the move. Called MAXIMS Bedside, the first version was unveiled within a week of the UK launch of the iPad.

The app was developed to assist healthcare professionals who do not always have immediate access to a PC. Being able to review test results, diagnoses and medical histories while they are with the patient helps improve care and saves time. Likewise, being able to monitor any change in a patient's condition remotely allows for a swift and effective response if their condition changes.

Officially launched at EHI Live this week, a demonstration version of MAXIMS Bedside can be downloaded free from the App Store. The system is currently being reviewed by clinicians across the UK to allow further refinements.

Shane Tickell, IMS MAXIMS CEO, said: "Being able to review a patient’s records while you are sitting with them can be a huge advantage. And for clinicians who work across several hospitals it can be very valuable to be kept up to date with particular cases. MAXIMS Bedside means they can be alerted if something happens, like a change of temperature or the arrival of a vital test result.

"Smart healthcare solutions offer huge opportunities for the future, and this is one example of the benefits they can bring. One of the most exciting aspects of MAXIMS Bedside is that it is highly flexible. Hospitals can set it up to provide exactly the right data for each group of staff - like palliative care specialists responsible for patients in hospitals, hospices and the community or busy orthopaedic surgeons working across several sites."

While MAXIMS Bedside has been primarily developed with clinical care in mind, it could also be adapted to the needs of other hospital staff who need to be able to respond to rapidly- changing situations. The system has a range of inbuilt security features to help protect sensitive information. These include the ability to stop an account or even disable a device if it is lost or stolen.
