SNOMED-Compliant e-Prescribing in New ALERT and First DataBank Partnership

First DataBankSNOMED-compliant electronic prescribing will be rolled out at CircleBath Hospital in a new contract announced between First DataBank (FDB) and ALERT Life Sciences Computing (ALERT). FDB's Multilex Drug Data File (Multilex DDF) will be integrated with ALERTâ Paper Free Hospital to enable clinicians at CircleBath Hospital to benefit from innovative SNOMED-compliant electronic clinical decision support in prescribing, dispensing and administration.

Multilex DDF within ALERTâ Paper Free Hospital will check the medication about to be prescribed or dispensed against information held in the patient's electronic health record and trigger on-screen alerts when there is a potential risk of contraindications, drug-drug interactions or duplicate therapy.

ALERT is an international healthcare systems vendor with offices in Europe, USA, Middle East, Far East, and South America. ALERT's healthcare products for secondary care and primary care are well-established in several countries. Circle, the operator of CircleBath, is Europe's largest healthcare partnership and is ALERT's first UK customer. ALERTâ Paper Free Hospital, is a complete clinical software solution that produces paper free clinical environments with electronic medical records and management tools for hospitals.

Laurence Campbell, Managing Director of ALERT UK comments on the partnership with FDB: "FDB’s Multilex technology will enhance patient safety for our UK customers and will be an important element in successfully implementing ALERT's e-prescribing, dispensing and medicines administration processes, giving users greater efficiency and confidence."

Darren Nichols, Managing Director, First DataBank adds: "ALERT offers an innovative and technically-advanced product to the UK secondary care market. The organisation has synergies with FDB's UK and international operations, and we will work together to realise the opportunities which could result from such a partnership."

Andrew Haw, Chief Information Officer, Circle comments: "This is another important building block in our strategy to use leading edge technology solutions in our new hospitals. SNOMED is key for us in the recording of all clinical information, pathways and documentation, as it will significantly enhance our ability to measure outcomes on a real time basis. The system is planned to go live in CircleBath Hospital in February 2010.
