 The potential offered by eHealth, and the evidence of its success, has long been clearly identified. Since 2003, with the creation of a series of eHealth conferences - of which this is the sixth - various Ministerial and high-level groups, together with the European Commission, have agreed to making Declarations and conference conclusions with a focus on eHealth.

On May 19, 2008, one year after its launch, the ePractice.eu portal will celebrate a Mid-Term workshop. The one-day event will be held in Brussels, in the European Commission's premises, with the presence of high-level officials responsible of the eGovernment, eInclusion and eHealth European policies and relevant experts from the private and public sectors.

On May 5th 2008, prior to the eHealth 2008 Conference in Portoroz-Slovenia, the results of the Q-REC Project will be presented in the joint EuroRec - SDMI/Prorec.SI workshop called "Quality Labelling and Certification of Electronic Health Record Systems in Europe".

Across Europe and worldwide, telemedicine and telehealth services respond to today's health and social demands, i.e. treatment of chronic patients, support for the quality of life of elderly people living at home and the empowerment of citizens/patients to make healthcare choices. With the evolving European-wide availability of eHealth infrastructures, new opportunities for highly interconnected telemedicine services emerge.
