HIMSS EMEA Celebrates One-Year of Dedication to Providing Global Leadership and Regional Services

HIMSS EMEAAt this year's World of Health IT Conference & Exhibition (WoHIT) held in Vienna, Austria, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) of Europe, the Middle East and Africa will celebrate the one-year anniversary of its EMEA office in Brussels.

The announcement of the creation of this office was made during the launch of the first World of Health IT Conference & Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland in October 2006. HIMSS EMEA along with an organising committee which includes the European Commission (EC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) organises the WoHIT conference, this October 22-25.

HIMSS is dedicated to providing global leadership and regional services to all the major players in the Health IT community comprised of professionals, companies and IT providers. "This year has proven to be a successful one. Through partnerships, networking and online technology, we are able to act as a central hub for EMEA health IT professionals and are in the process of helping them advance in the field and the delivery of healthcare together," said Michael Strübin, HIMSS EMEA Executive Director.

Since the office's opening in 2006, HIMSS EMEA has engaged and empowered the Health IT Community in Europe, the Middle East and Africa by offering practical and effective education through world-class data, online educational seminars, publications, research and other resources for healthcare information and management systems professionals and vendors. Some of the one-year milestones attained include:

  • Launch of the HIMSS EMEA website which offers Health IT Professionals the latest Health IT news topics, fact sheets, an Expert View and a current events calendar.
  • Monthly eNewsletters focus on one topical aspect of healthcare ICT each month and include specially commissioned interviews with two experts in that field.
  • eSeminars are a series of key interactive lectures in which healthcare professionals are able to send and receive information as well as discuss issues with a global audience – all without leaving their chair.
  • An online community discussing healthcare IT, with nearly 600 members
  • The 1st HIMSS EMEA Leadership Survey to provide information on key ICT trends in hospitals and other healthcare delivery organisations

The HIMSS mission is to lead change in the healthcare information and management systems field through knowledge sharing, advocacy, collaboration, innovation and community affiliations. "HIMSS is pleased to mark this one-year celebration with our colleagues at the Brussels office," said Steve Lieber, HIMSS CEO/president, "We applaud HIMSS EMEA for a job well done and continue to work side-by-side with them in leading the Health IT Community worldwide.
