Successful premiere of the TeleHealth conference/exhibition

  • Community successfully established in the telemedical industry
  • Presentation of telemedical trends and technologies in the chronic illness, health care and home care sectors

Organizers and participants were delighted at the success of the first TeleHealth, which was held in parallel with CeBIT. The telemedical industry gathered together for two days in the Convention Center at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds – right at the heart of CeBIT. During the exhibition and the corporate and specialist lectures on 19 and 20 March, a total of 67 international providers showcased cutting-edge telemedical applications and technologies. The companies all praised the outstanding quality of the discussions and were pleasantly surprised by the number of contacts made. 380 guests registered for the two-day congress program, which featured 33 presentations and panel discussions. The corporate lecture forum at the heart of the congress was a major draw – attracting 870 participants.

"TeleHealth saw the establishment for the first time of a proper community for the telemedical industry," said advisory committee member Prof. Harald Korb from PHTS Telemedicine, Dusseldorf. "There were three components to TeleHealth – an exhibition, a congress and a networking platform. All three areas were hugely successful, especially the exhibition and the networking platform, which far exceeded our expectations," said the telemedical expert.

The organizers and participants were also delighted with the congress. There was praise for both the quality of the lectures and the top-level, fascinating panel discussions. "The traditional structures of the health care system don't allow us to push forward telemedical developments. All interest groups, including developers, users and patients, were represented at TeleHealth. All had the future firmly in mind," says Dr. Martin Denz, Vice-President of the European Health Telematics Association, Brussels, and a member of the TeleHealth advisory committee.

Ernst Raue, member of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe, Hannover, and responsible both for CeBIT and TeleHealth, also drew a positive conclusion from the new congress: "CeBIT is the meeting place for everyone involved in the digital sector. It is more than just a trade fair – it's also the most important congress in the digital world. We've systematically expanded the congress program at CeBIT in order to meet our visitors' calls for even more in-depth information. And that's exactly what TeleHealth has achieved – it provides the leading figures in the health care sector with a forum for discussing the possibilities of digital technology."

TeleHealth centered largely on mobility, be it in provision, care or the treatment of chronic illnesses. In all areas, telemedicine offers outstanding solutions for improving the quality of patient services while also cutting costs. TeleHealth was a huge hit with international visitors – many guests, especially those from overseas, used the event to find out more about the opportunities provided by telemedical products and services.
