EMIS Web App Gives GPs Mobile Working

EMISEMIS Web - the transformational healthcare system from leading GP software supplier EMIS - has become the first GP and integrated care system to enable mobile working on all the main tablet devices, from iPads to Android. Unveiled at the EMIS National User Group conference, the EMIS Mobile app allows clinicians to work online and offline, managing patients even in areas where there is no connectivity. Functionality includes accessing their diary and appointment schedule to viewing patient records and adding consultations. The software is compatible with all the main tablet platforms, including iOS, Android and Windows 8.

The EMIS Mobile app will be available from mid-October to sites in the EMIS Web early adopter programme, and will then be available to all EMIS Web users by the end of 2012. Its benefits will extend not just to GPs but also to the growing number of other healthcare professionals who are using the system, including community and secondary care teams.

Dr Shaun O'Hanlon, Clinical and Development Director, EMIS: said: "Our working world is changing rapidly as the technology revolution gathers momentum. As the UK's leading supplier of GP software, EMIS is a pioneer in using technology to transform the delivery of clinical care in the NHS.

"Our users demanded safe and secure access to essential patient information wherever they work, across multiple platforms, and we have responded. The EMIS Mobile app will help clinicians to provide safer, more streamlined care on the move, while releasing them from paperwork to spend more time with patients."

Easier online GP access for patients - including mobile
EMIS has also launched a new service that will make it easier for patients to access practice services via the internet, while enabling GPs to meet key government targets.

Patient Access is an enhancement to EMIS' existing popular Access service, which enables patients to book GP appointments online and request repeat medication. Patients currently have to sign up for the service and collect a password at their local practice.

With Patient Access, they will be able to quickly and easily register online via their mobile phone or home computer, obtain a password and book their first GP appointment. After verifying their registration with their GP practice, they will be able to order repeat medications and use other online services. It will also be easy to securely change or retrieve passwords - without having to trouble their practice again.

Neil Laycock, Managing Director of EMIS, said: "We are increasingly banking, shopping and socialising online, right across the age spectrum. So it makes perfect sense to put patients in the driving seat when it comes to using online health services."
