The European Commission is creating the right conditions for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, through the Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE) and the EU's new Research and Innovation programme, Horizon 2020.

eHealth Interoperability Framework Study

The study on the eHealth Interoperability Framework, financed by the European Commission and conducted by Deloitte Consulting, has been finalised. The study defines a vision of an EU eHealth Interoperability Framework with four levels: technical, semantic, organisational and legal. It also assesses some technical specifications from the epSOS interoperability framework and from two consortia, IHE and Continua Health Alliance, against the identification criteria of the annex II of the Regulation on European Standardization.

Boosting eHealth: New EU Action Plan

Managing your health and wellbeing with the help of digital and online tools is set to become easier and more commonplace following the adoption of a second EU Action Plan for eHealth. This Action Plan - which runs from 2012 to 2020 - aims to make healthcare more efficient, cost-effective and patient oriented. In 2014, the Commission will also present ideas to boost Mobile Health, e.g. real-time monitoring of patients' vital signs via mobile telemedicine.

Proceedings of the 5th International Advanced Research Workshop on In Silico Oncology and Cancer Investigation

Cancer is a natural phenomenon and as such it should be amenable to mathematical and computational description. Clinically driven complex multiscale cancer models can produce rather realistic spatio-temporal simulations of concrete clinical interventions such as radio-chemotherapy applied to individual patients. Clinical data processing procedures and computer technologies play an important role in this context. Following clinical adaptation and validation within the framework of clinico-genomic trials, models are expected to enhance individualized treatment optimization.

Collectively, we must invest in preventіon and provide better care through innovation and efficiencies. Rapidly ageing population requires a shift towards pervasive social services, the deliіvery of cure and care beyond the boundaries of hospitals and shaping polices and services for healthier cities.
