Four New Hospitals from the Netherlands, France and Turkey Win Awards

HIMSS EuropeHIMSS Analytics Europe, subsidiary of HIMSS Europe, awarded yesterday four new hospitals in Europe with Stage 6 Award during the forth edition of eHealth Week, that is taking place in Dublin from the 13th to 15th of May.

The awarded hospitals are: University Medical Center Utrecht, with more than 1.000 beds; Leiden University Medical Center, with 867 beds, both in the Netherlands; the Ankara Hospital in Turkey, in Istanbul, that has 160 beds; and Hôpital Europeen Georges Pompidou in Paris, France, with around 800 beds.

It is the first time that a Turkish hospital is ranked with a Stage 6. In the Netherlands these new awarded hospitals join the previous one awarded in Mallorca in November: Westfriesgasthuis; and in France this new one also joins the Centre Hospitalier Belfort Montbéliard. In total there are 29 hospitals in Europe recognized with the Stage 6, and two hospitals with the Stage 7, one in Germany and one in Spain.

The European EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) has been adapted to meet the unique needs of European Healthcare Institutions as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems in hospitals. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0‐7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents a superior electronic patient record environment.

Stage 6 & 7 hospitals provide best practices that other healthcare organizations can study as they strive to use EMR applications to improve patient safety, clinical outcomes and patient care delivery efficiency.

Uwe Buddrus, General Manager, HIMSS Analytics Europe, aims: "We are pleased with the steady increase of hospitals reaching Stage 6, and we are happy to welcome a new country in our ranking, what shows the effort that Public Administrations and hospitals are doing to improve the management and patient’s care through the implementation of electronic medical record."
