Carestream Launches Pioneering Ultrasound System with Unique All-touch Control panel at Röntgenveckan in Malmö, Sweden

Carestream CARESTREAM Touch Prime Ultrasound System and CARESTREAM Touch Prime XE Ultrasound System have both received FDA 510 (k) clearance and are now available in the US. These two premium systems are intended for general diagnostic ultrasound imaging within radiology.

These two products are the first in Carestream’s new ultrasound family and both received excellent reviews for their configurable touch-control panels and advanced imaging features when they launched at RSNA 2014 and at the 2015 American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine conference.

The Carestream Touch Ultrasound System was introduced to the Swedish market at the Röntgenveckan Exhibition held in Malmo, Sweden in September.

"These new ultrasound systems are based on our expertise in digital radiography," said Anders Sjöström, Northern Europe Cluster Business Manager for Carestream Ultrasound Solutions. "We started with a blank sheet of paper and have been working with our customers to develop next-generation ultrasound solutions. These systems have a powerful, integrated GPU processor that provides exceptional image quality and fast response times, which also improves usability and productivity."

Carestream Touch Prime XE is the company's flagship ultrasound product. It uses Carestream's groundbreaking Touch Prime Syntek architecture to provide enhanced resolution and increase the number of images to better show moving structures whilst it optimises image output with less noise and fewer artifacts. Improvements in imaging and Doppler provide a stable display of subtle contrast differences in tissue and can improve the ability to see small structures.

Carestream Touch Prime XE has the capacity to achieve frame rates of over 100Hz whilst maintaining image quality and functionality, as DICOM, wireless connectivity, barcode and card readers and elastography can all be selected within the system.

Both Prime Touch and Touch Prime XE have a sealed all-touch control panel that combines the speed and flexibility of a touch screen with the tactile feel of a traditional keyboard. Etched markings for the main keys allow the user to easily find them without looking away from the monitor. Both systems have the following characteristics:

  • A sealed touch panel that makes it easy to clean and helps limit the spread of pathogens.
  • High-level computing power for fast response and excellent picture quality.
  • Easy to manoeuver and takes up little space, making the imaging process faster and easier.
  • 'Swipe and go' badge log-on saves time and promotes secure access.
  • 'Smart Connect' transducer technology makes it easy to select the desired transducer with a single touch.
  • Cold boot time of an unprecedented 18 seconds can further help increase productivity and eliminate the need for standby mode and battery backup.
  • Easy to adapt the system ergonomically to individual users, thereby helping to reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries.

The design team behind the Carestream Touch Ultrasound systems gathered input from professional ultrasound users across the world to develop and refine features on the new platform, all supported by Carestream's global network of service, support and training.

Carestream Touch Prime and Carestream Touch Prime XE are expected to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2015. The Carestream Touch Ultrasound product family will grow to include additional systems designed to meet the demands of the medical market worldwide.
