Following the publication of a study into the frequency of Adverse Drug Reactions, First DataBank has spoken out at the tragedy of these avoidable and sometimes fatal errors. The study by PLos One entitled "Adverse Drug Reactions in Hospital In - Patients: A Prospective Analysis of 3695 Patient-Episodes" was covered this week by the BBC and highlighted that "one in seven hospital patients experience adverse drug reactions, half of which are completely avoidable". 
Carestream Health is amongst the first healthcare companies to be awarded the KBV Certificate "eGK-Release-0" as part of the initial rollout of the electronic healthcare card to be used in Germany. The Federal National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians awarded the certificate for the CARESTREAM Radiology Information System (RIS) Software. 
Orion Health congratulates the Ministry of Health and Consumer Protection of Balearic Islands (Ib-Salut) for its 2007 Quality Award from the Spanish Ministry of Health. The award was presented to the organization in December, 2008, for the Ministry's Ib-Salut Medical History project in the category of innovation in the overall improvement of quality of care. 
Increasing numbers of GP surgeries across London are opting to use the iPLATO text messaging capability to increase the uptake of self screening tests for Chlamydia. The iPLATO Patient Care Messaging system is being used to support initiatives aimed at addressing the dramatic increase of the infection, which according to the National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) could be affecting 1 in 10 people under the age of 25 who are sexually active. 
System C has signed a five-year contract with a Wiltshire-based consortium of GPs who are pioneering government plans to bring healthcare services closer to home. Called Wilcare Health Ltd, the consortium provides services in a community setting which are more traditionally associated with acute hospitals. 
The Peine Clinic in Lower Saxony is the first hospital in Germany to interface its angiography systems with an image management and reporting system. All data generated prior to or during an intervention in the cardiac cath lab is now automatically transferred to the new IT system. The advantage: while the examination is still in progress, operating personnel can use important examination data to prepare a report for wards or referring physicians in just a matter of minutes.
