IHTSDO Launches New Global Effort to Build Essential Health Terminology Toolset

The International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) announced a global effort to improve access to tools needed to develop, maintain, and enable the use of SNOMED CT in health systems around the world. This effort is part of an Open Health Tools Charter Project jointly sponsored by IHTSDO, the National Health Service in the UK and Australia's National e-Health Transition Authority.

Norway's role as world leader in new health technology, is the background for HP opening their European centre of health technology in Bryn, Oslo. The centre is equipped like a small hospital, complete with a patient room, watch room and an adjacent demonstration room.

Launch of the European Research Project CARS Explorer

The CARS Explorer project, coordinated by Didier Marguet from the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (Inserm Unit 631, CIML, Marseille), was officially launched in April in Marseille, France. CARS Explorer is a collaborative research project funded by the European Commission under the Health priority of the 7th Framework Programme.

Health Informatics Review Report

This review has been taking place alongside the NHS Next Stage Review (NSR) and reflects the informatics requirements of that review. Groups of staff, patients, carers and the public have been looking at clinical pathways and new ways of providing care. There are needs to support access and choice, the involvement of patients and the public and to meet increasing expectations. These make this the appropriate time for a review of information requirements and how information is provided. The review is also timely because of the technological advances and the rise of the importance of information to society in general.

NHS Connecting for Health's NHS Care Record Service Evaluation Begins

NHS Connecting for Health, the flagship NHS IT programme, is to be evaluated by a national team of researchers led by the University of Edinburgh. The £1.5m study, which begins on 1st September 2008, will run until December 2010 and also involves researchers from the Universities of Nottingham, LSE, School of Pharmacy and the NHS.
