Scientists Argue for More FDA Oversight of Healthcare AI Tools

An agile, transparent, and ethics-driven oversight system is needed for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to balance innovation with patient safety when it comes to artificial intelligence-driven medical technologies. That is the takeaway from a new report issued to the FDA, published in the open-access journal PLOS Medicine by Leo Celi of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and colleagues.

New App may Help Caregivers of People Getting a Bone Marrow Transplant

A new study by investigators from Mass General Brigham showed that a new app they created can help improve the quality of life for caregivers of patients undergoing bone marrow transplant (BMT). The researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial and found that caregivers assigned to use the app showed significantly greater improvements in quality of life, burden, and mood symptoms compared to those who did not have the app.
