The main objective of the EIBIR Winter School is to support the interdisciplinary training of technical and clinical PhD students working in the broad area of biomedical imaging. In this first EIBIR Winter School on Interdisciplinary Biomedical Imaging, two key clinical disease areas will be addressed which altogether represent the two leading causes of death worldwide: cardiovascular and oncologic diseases.
EU-funded researchers have developed a technique that could allow surgeons to distinguish between cancerous and healthy tissue in real time as they carry out operations. The novel technique, which is described in an article in the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition, could spare cancer patients from having to undergo a second round of surgery to remove tumour tissue that was missed during the first operation.
The objective of the study is to identify and analyse the legal and regulatory framework for electronic health services in the EU Member States and for cross-border services when provided via eHealth applications, in particular in the areas of electronic health records, telemedicine and e-prescription. This report contains the analysis and assessment of the information collected in the Member States and draws some conclusions and recommendations.
