New Technique Could Spare Cancer Patients from Further Surgery

EU-funded researchers have developed a technique that could allow surgeons to distinguish between cancerous and healthy tissue in real time as they carry out operations. The novel technique, which is described in an article in the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition, could spare cancer patients from having to undergo a second round of surgery to remove tumour tissue that was missed during the first operation.

Study on the Legal Framework for Interoperable eHealth in Europe

The objective of the study is to identify and analyse the legal and regulatory framework for electronic health services in the EU Member States and for cross-border services when provided via eHealth applications, in particular in the areas of electronic health records, telemedicine and e-prescription. This report contains the analysis and assessment of the information collected in the Member States and draws some conclusions and recommendations.

The City of Bolzano Chooses IBM to Enable New Solutions for Citizens

The City of Bolzano, Italy and TIS Innovation Park have entered into a strategic initiative with IBM (NYSE: IBM), with the aim of creating a smart city. Bolzano, capital of South Tyrol in northern Italy, is the fifth Italian city to choose IBM to identify and design a new model for a sustainable city through a range of digital solutions. During the next few months a pilot project will be implemented for remote health monitoring of the elderly.
