New Release of InterSystems TrakCare Extends Web-based Healthcare Information System

InterSystemsInterSystems announced the 2010 version of InterSystems TrakCare™. This release of the world's leading Web-based healthcare information system further empowers clinicians and administrators with significant enhancements including:
  • Powerful new functionality for increased clinical productivity and patient safety
  • Embedded business intelligence capabilities
  • New functionality for measuring and meeting service guarantees (e.g. referral time to treatment)

TrakCare provides a full range of web-based clinical, administrative, lab and community care capabilities. Implementations range from single sites to country-wide deployments on five continents. With an Electronic Patient Record at its core, TrakCare enables authorised users to securely access and update patient information via a single logon from anywhere they have access to the Internet.

According to Christine Chapman, Chief Operating Officer, TrakCare at InterSystems, "Healthcare information systems can only deliver system-wide benefits when embraced by clinicians and administrators. That means all stakeholders must benefit from their adoption. With this release, TrakCare has an even stronger clinician focus, empowering healthcare professionals to improve their productivity and their patients' safety. TrakCare also empowers administrators by embedding business intelligence capabilities for better operational decision-making."

Powerful clinical productivity and patient safety functionality
TrakCare's new Clinician Priority Workbench improves productivity by enabling clinicians to assess, prioritise and take action on workload related to all their patients, all from a single screen. Functionality enables clinicians to view and manage scheduled clinic appointments and bookings for operating theatres, meetings, tasks to be completed, current patient lists, unread results, pending orders and pending discharges.

New Clinical Consultation functionality delivers a highly efficient and flexible means of recording the details, clinical notes, tasks or actions required to complete a patient consultation from a single screen without constant switching between screens or unnecessary repeated data entry.

Enhanced Clinical Handovers functionality enables a flexible approach to sharing important inpatient and emergency patient information between care providers during shift changes, supporting a seamless transition of care. TrakCare can be used to re-assign care providers, displaying pertinent information in patient-specific handover screens and multiple patient lists.

TrakCare's new Medication Management functionality lends a helping hand to busy nursing staff, helping them to reduce risk and increase patient safety by minimising adverse drug events while providing patients with peace of mind. TrakCare utilises barcodes at the point of care to positively identify a patient, identify a medication dose and validate them both against a current active and matching prescription.

Embedded Business Intelligence
Embedded in TrakCare is InterSystems DeepSee™, business intelligence software that facilitates business process analysis and optimisation using live operational data. A library of over 100 pre-configured dashboards supports efficient operations, timely decision making, risk identification and metrics against key performance indicators.

Unlike traditional healthcare information systems, TrakCare's business intelligence capabilities are not based upon a separate repository or data warehouse but utilise TrakCare's single data repository, the InterSystems Caché® database. Powerful queries can be performed against live operational data, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of results.

Service Guarantees
TrakCare's new Service Guarantee functionality helps organisations meet and measure their compliance with mandatory or voluntary service targets such as waiting list control, referral to treatment time, and delivery of appropriate care within set guidelines for a specific patient diagnosis.
