Orion Health Technology Central to Success of Double EHI Awards Winner

Orion HealthOrion Health (OHE:NZX/ASX) technology has played a crucial role in the success of the double prize-winning Connecting Care Partnership announced at October's EHI Awards 2015 in London. The 'Connecting Care' shared care record scheme in the South West was named the 'Overall winner' at the ceremony, shortly after being named as the winner for the 'Best use of IT to support integrated healthcare services' category.

The programme shares data between hospitals, GPs, community providers, mental health and local authorities and social services departments using Orion Health clinical portal technology, and has been live since December 2013.

Managing Director of Orion Health in UK and Ireland, Colin Henderson, believes that the Connecting Care team thoroughly deserve this recognition.

"The integrated record they have established is proof that whole system, health & social care information sharing is possible and delivers the benefits one might expect from more transparent information sharing. We have been working with the team for some time on the project, and they have not only driven forward the information sharing agenda in their region, but their approach has acted as a template for similar initiatives throughout England and is attracting interest in other geographies. It is great to see their leadership acknowledged in this manner."

Andy Kinnear, the Connecting Care programme director, said that he was very proud of his team. He sees their efforts, and those of other partners, as an essential foundation for delivering patient-centred care across the region.

"Orion Health has been a great member of the partnership that has come together to make this happen. It is great to see what has been achieved recognised through the awards. Such partnerships are the platform for integrated care and population health that will help drive a future NHS."

The Connecting Care programme aims to reach over 10,000 users across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire in the coming years. The initial focus is on urgent and unscheduled care, and Orion Health's clinical portal allows care professionals across 13 different organisations to view detailed information about a patient including demographics, reports, referrals, scheduled appointments, discharge details and care assessments.

Through aggregation of information from multiple systems, care professionals now get a single view of patient information that seamlessly supports them to deliver personalised, high quality care. Wayne Oxenham, EVP - EMEA, Orion Health, believes the ability for Orion Health to help extend upon this existing functionality and enable the Connecting Care program to reach greater heights is an exciting prospect.

"We now look forward to building on this success in order to help them realise their ambitions for a person-centred, population health management system that delivers high quality care to the citizens of the South West. This aligns perfectly with our vision we take to all projects throughout the region and we are excited to showcase the possible outcomes that a successful partnership like this can deliver."
