Sussex Considers Lorenzo Option as Part of New Deal

iSOFTSussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has agreed a new five-year deal with iSOFT for patient administration systems (PAS) with an option to become an early adopter of Lorenzo.

One of the largest mental health trusts in England, Sussex Partnership has elected to continue using iSOFT Patient Management (formerly i.Patient Manager). iSOFT will install the latest version of its application and provide support for up to five years.

"It was a natural decision to continue using a system that everyone is familiar with and we all trust," said Jane Rennie, the trust's Director of Information Management and Technology. "We have an advanced set of functionality and want to maintain the momentum by proactively developing our trust IT strategy. iSOFT has a clear product development pathway with Lorenzo being the natural progression."

Under the agreement, iSOFT will also work with Sussex to help it unleash the full functionality of its new PAS. Jane Rennie says that traditionally community and mental health trusts use only 30%-40% of the PAS functions available. "We need to 'sweat the assets' and get all we can from the PAS to ensure we make the most of our investment."

Sussex Partnership will also consider the option in the next six months of becoming iSOFT's first UK-based Lorenzo early adopter outside the National Programme for IT.

"We need to look to the future and examine technologies that will help drive major improvements in our services and business," Rennie said. "This is particularly relevant because of our recently launched strategy Better by Design. iSOFT has a clear product development pathway with Lorenzo being the natural progression.

"Lorenzo is an ideal platform for aiding mobile working, which is key for us since most staff work in the community or at community hospitals and clinics. We now need to assess fully whether Lorenzo fits with the needs of all our staff across 120 sites."

"This is testimony to our ability to deliver solutions that meet customer expectations and a strategy for future needs," said Adrian Stevens, Managing Director of iSOFT's UK and Ireland business. "It is very gratifying that one of the most highly regarded mental health specialist trusts in England is looking to start its Lorenzo journey by contracting directly with iSOFT. Such a move is fully aligned with our strategy of providing a clear migration path to our customers in the south of England from existing, proven solutions to Lorenzo; a platform that places the patient firmly at the centre of the care process."

With 4,800 staff serving 1.5 million people in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex, Sussex Partnership is one of the UK's largest mental health trusts. It provides specialist NHS mental health, substance misuse and learning disability services and achieved foundation status in 2008.
