The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, UK, Acquires Leading-Edge Agfa HealthCare Digital Radiography Solutions

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare announces today that The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, in South Yorkshire, UK, has implemented the DX-D 100 direct radiography (DR) solution, with FreeView technology, in its Emergency Department. The hospital has also implemented a new DR 600 fully automated DR X-ray room. For both systems image quality, ease of use, price and after-sales service were all key considerations in making the choice.

Manoeuvrability and image quality for busy A&E
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is a modern, progressive Trust, which fosters its reputation for clinical excellence and efficiency. The busy Emergency (ED) Department deals with around 75,000 patients per year, and there are approximately 55,000 inpatients and 250,000 outpatient attendances each year.

In October 2015, the Trust signed an agreement with Agfa HealthCare for the DX-D 100 for their ED Department and the ceiling suspended DR 600 for a new X-ray room.

Speed, potential dose reduction and safe navigation
Fully automated, leading-edge, multi-detector, high-productivity and high-throughput - the digital DR 600 X-ray room streamlines workflow, increases throughput and enhances the experience of both patients and caregivers. Automation, auto-positioning and auto-tracking allow light, fast and easy operation.

The highly maneuverable, wireless DX-D 100 is ideal for busy emergency departments, as well as for intensive care units, operating rooms or at the patient's bedside. With the new FreeView technology, the telescopic arm of the DX-D 100 can be collapsed for an unobstructed view that offers better maneuverability and navigation.

The DR 600 and DX-D 100 are empowered by Agfa HealthCare's intelligent MUSICA image processing software, which provides consistently high image quality across all of Agfa HealthCare's digital radiography solutions and robustness against variations including patient size, tube quality and exposure settings.

Ease of use and faster training
"We have worked successfully with Agfa HealthCare's computed radiography (CR) for the last 9 years. A significant part of the decision making process, was the fact that both new DR systems come with the same MUSICA image processing and workflow as the CR solutions" comments Lisa Hickling, Deputy Professional Lead for Clinical Radiology, Medical Physics and Medical Photography/Illustration, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. "We are confident in the functionality of the new and current solutions, and our familiarity with them made it even easier to adapt to the new systems. This presented as less training time and resources, in order to get the most from the new systems as rapidly as possible.. In addition, the faster throughput, higher image quality and potential for lower dose from the DX-D 100 and DR 600 were also very important considerations in our final choice."

"We are very pleased to be able to accompany and support The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust in its digital journey," comments John Flavell, Imaging Business Manager of Agfa HealthCare UK. "The experience of the Trust with our CR solutions has given them the confidence to move forward with our DR solutions, demonstrating their satisfaction with Agfa HealthCare as a supplier. This contract also shows the success of our efforts to ensure that we offer DR solutions that meet the needs of all types of healthcare facilities."
