Shrewsbury and Telford Extends with Agfa HealthCare

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare has signed a seven year contract extension with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The extension runs until December 2018 and includes a full upgrade of their current Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) across the whole trust moving from Agfa HealthCare's IMPAX 5.3 to IMPAX 6.5. The Trust will also take two of Agfa HealthCare's latest DX-D 100 mobile direct radiology (DR) units on a six month trial and replace eight CR units including three at community hospitals.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute medical care for half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid-Wales. Most of the services are provided at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury.

Easier access to images across the Trust
An Agfa HealthCare customer since 2002, the Trust wanted to significantly enhance their current PACS system and benefit from the advancements in the latest version of the IMPAX 6.5 solution including the clinical applications and mammography. Shrewsbury and Telford also wanted a solution that allowed easier access to images right across the Trust.

IMPAX 6 is a next generation PACS and is designed to streamline the workflow, delivering increased efficiency and productivity across hospitals or care facilities. The single workflow-based system adapts to the specific needs, and works in the way healthcare professionals want to work streamlining study reviews, offering a persona-based design, and enabling improved reporting and results distribution.

DX-D 100: instant imaging for immediate validation
The DX-D 100 mobile DR system, part of Agfa HealthCare's DX-D direct radiology family, offers Shrewsbury and Telford instant imaging for immediate validation wherever needed. This is the first time the Trust has used DR mobile but its versatility will significantly enhance the clinical workflow allowing instant high-quality image capture on the ward which can be seen immediately on the PACS system.

Due to the wireless connectivity to the hospital network, RIS data can be uploaded to the DX-D 100, and acquired images sent immediately to the PACS system. This significantly improves efficiency and the advanced DR needle technology and MUSICA² image enhancement ensures high image quality with dose reduction potential.

Richard Williams, PACS Manager at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital comments: "The PACS upgrade and the use of DR mobile will significantly improve our radiology workflow and the service delivery right from the image acquisition stage at the bedside through to the use of the advanced visualisation tools that maximise user productivity."

Grant Witheridge, General Manager of Agfa HealthCare UK, comments: "I am delighted that Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital have chosen to extend with Agfa HealthCare and upgrade their PACS solutions and image acquisition technology. This is another example of the benefits of effective service delivery and long standing customer relationships that sees our customers looking to continue with Agfa HealthCare at a time when there is a great deal of activity and procurement within the market."

He adds: "I am also pleased that the Trust has chosen to trial the DX-D 100 units. Alongside the rest of Agfa HealthCare's DX-D family this demonstrates our ability to offer the most appropriate solution for hospitals and healthcare facilities, whatever the DR needs may be."
