Foundation of the Cellitinnen Expands Use of Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS HIS/RIS and HYDMedia

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare announces that the Foundation of the "Cellitinnen zur hl. Maria" (Cellites of St. Mary) in Germany is extending its use of Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS hospital and radiology information system (HIS/RIS) across its sites. Five of the nine Cellitinnen hospitals, located in the northwest of Cologne and the Wuppertal area, have been using this system for many years. Now the remaining four hospitals are replacing their existing HIS solution with ORBIS. The installation also includes Agfa HealthCare's HYDMedia digital document management system, as well as SAP ERP modules for the administrative domains.

The hospital group provides basic and secondary care, and has a total of 1,965 beds.

NICE: new ORBIS user interface
As a first step, the functionalities from ORBIS and from the HIS being replaced will be consolidated into a centralized database structure under the new ORBIS user interface, NICE. In subsequent phases, comprehensive functionalities and systems will be installed and a digital patient record for the Cellitinnen hospital group implemented. To achieve this, the processes in the various organizations will be standardized.

Ensuring access to information across hospitals
In May 2010, the Cellitinnen issued a tender for a HIS for the entire group. The system had to ensure access across all the hospitals to all data relevant for patient care. In addition, the ORBIS RIS and HYDMedia had to be integral elements of the new solution.

"ORBIS offers a multitude of functionalities, and therefore meets the requirements of our hospitals and of our various organizations in terms of breadth and depth," explains Stefan Dombert, CEO of the St. Vinzenz Hospital and IT Department Head of the St. Marien Hospital Association. "The HYDMedia digital archiving system offers a professional solution separate from the HIS, and therefore also safeguards long-term archiving to the degree legally necessary. In addition, there is an established, high performance interface linking the two systems, which allows for rapid and safe retrieval of all documents from the HIS. Finally, HYDMedia, as an integral element of the ORBIS HIS, allows us to archive medical data such as diagnoses, reports and results of radiological exams, as well as all documents generated in clinical and administrative departments."

Experience in standardizing systems and processes
"We are very much aware of the challenges that come with a large, complex project," highlights Winfried Post, General Manager, Agfa HealthCare D-A-CH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). "However, we are pleased to take them on. Thanks to our comprehensive experience with large IT projects in the healthcare sector, as well as the strong motivation and high degree of professionalism of all the parties involved, we look forward to carrying out this project."

He concludes, "We wish to support, sustainably and continuously, the Cellitinnen hospitals with our experience in standardizing systems and processes."
