New innovation aids in avoiding duplicate examinations

TietoEnatorThe signing of a cooperation agreement between TietoEnator, the supplier of the hospital information system (HIS) iMedOneWeb, social miners' and mine employees' insurance Rail and Water, and Dortmund College in turn launching the starting signal for their mutual project DiPP (Digital Process Management in the Prosper Network). "This is intended to build a highly integrated and standardized complete supply for patients" according to Dr. Markus Volpers, responsible for TietoEnator Healthcare & Welfare's business in Central Europe. The project should be completed in late 2008.

The "Prosper Network", which is a medical network that connects resident physicians to the hospital, is intended to effectively control patient treatment with trans-sectoral paths across specializations, institutions, and sectors through all the participants. The goal of the cooperation project is the expansion of the software for digital process management interacting with practice administration systems in the ambulant sector and HIS in the in-patient sector.

"This prevents costly duplicate examinations. Any physician involved in the treatment has access to the digital patient chart. The treatment itself is administered according to defined medical quality criteria reflecting the current status of knowledge", explains Markus Volpers. Research has shown that savings of up to 25 percent are possible. "With this research project, we can access mutual experiences together with the social miners' and mine employees' insurance while introducing clinical treatment paths at the Bottrop Social Miners' and Mine Employees' Hospital", continues Volpers.
