simon - Open Source Language-Independent Speech Recognition System

simon, developed as an open-source platform under the General Public License (GPL) has the aim to serve as an advanced and state of the art speech recognition system (SRC) for people with locomotor and cognitive dysfunctions.

"The target group of simon are people, who can't or hardly use the mouse or keyboard, it can also be useful in case of cognitive and linguistic problems, because it has a personalized language model and individually arranged definition of implementation," mentioned Mr. Franz Stieger, Owner of Cyber Byte EDV Services (a company which is supporting simon).

simon is free of charge, the necessary adaptations need pedagogical-therapeutic as well as advanced technical skills. For this reason, simon's developers offer trainings and instructions in the frames of specialised workshops, and in special:

  • Impulse-workshop for interested people;
  • Intensive-workshop for therapists and pedagogues;
  • Implementation-workshop for therapists, pedagogues and clients.

simon speech recognition system includes:

  • Language Model - a package with pronunciation's statistic data.
  • Recognizer - processes the input of voice data and transforms it into a stream of phonemes.
  • Parser - transforms phonemes into words.
  • Action Mapper - recognizes in the transmitted stream of words preconfigured commands.
