Microtech and Trustmarque Join Forces to Support Scottish eHealth Drive

Scottish health boards can now enjoy quicker access to a broader range of IT services following a new partnership agreement between Microtech Support and Trustmarque Solutions. Under the NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) Software and Services framework agreement, all NHS organisations in Scotland can purchase software and IT services and benefit from favourable pricing and consistent contract terms.

This partnership will enable health boards working towards the productivity and clinical ambitions of Scotland’s eHealth strategy to easily procure a flexible range of vital IT services.

Chris McMail, managing director for Microtech said: "The Scottish healthcare market is going through a period of transformation and IT is at the heart of it. We’re seeing deployments of technologies such as clinical portals and patient management systems, which will deliver significant benefits for clinicians and patients. IT support services from specialist partners are underpinning the successful delivery of such projects by working closely with the health board’s IT teams."

Trustmarque is an existing supplier providing software and IT services expertise to NHS Health Boards in Scotland. Following the partnership agreement, the services available to health boards have been extended to include Microtech's portfolio.

Microtech offers customised IT solutions such as installing applications, networking and security to a range of maintenance services throughout Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England.

The two suppliers will use their combined 28 years’ experience servicing the Scottish marketplace to help deliver complex IT projects and programmes within time and financial constraints.

NHS Lanarkshire is the first to benefit from the new partnership. Microtech and Trustmarque have provided services to NHS Lanarkshire’s eHealth programme to help with the IT changes required ahead of the planned go live of the e-casenote system at both the acute hospitals at Monklands and Wishaw General later this year.

IT support services are a vital part of Scotland's eHealth strategy, which focuses on the benefits and outcomes experienced by the people of Scotland flowing from healthcare IT enabled service redesign and quality improvements.

"Trustmarque has an outstanding reputation within Scotland for providing software licensing services to health and social care organisations. This agreement is significant in that boards which may have previously had to endure protracted procurement processes to attain our services are no longer confined to lengthy timescales. The impact of this is that efficiency and clinical benefits can be realised quicker," added McMail.

Mark Garrity, head of UK public sector for Trustmarque, said: "As part of our continuing commitment to deliver value to the Scottish healthcare marketplace, we wanted to provide a wide range of software and services which can be quickly and efficiently procured, and this partnership enables us to achieve that. Through the combined expertise and knowledge of both companies we can service NHS organisations in Scotland, enabling them to meet their current and future technology requirements, improve efficiencies and deliver better, and safer care."
