Italian Conference on eHealth and European Telemedicine Conference 2014

European Telemedicine Conference7 - 8 October 2014, Rome, Italy.
The Italian Ministry of Health is organizing, under the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union the Conference on eHealth that will take place on 7-8 October 2014 in Rome. The Conference on eHealth will be held in conjunction with the European Telemedicine Conference. The Conference on eHealth and the European Telemedicine Conference will share the following sessions: October 7th, 2014 at 15:00: "Joint Opening Keynote Conference on eHealth and European Telemedicine Conference" and October 8th, 2014 at 11:00: "Telemedicine". The Italian Minister of Health, Honourable Beatrice Lorenzin, will attend the Conference to seal with her presence the central role of eHealth on the Italian Presidency's healthcare agenda.

The European Telemedicine Conference event will be presented by HIMSS Europe together with Badalona Serveis Assistencials, Catalonia, Spain, NHS 24, UK, Norwegian Centre for Integrated Care and Telemedicine, Odense University Hospital, Denmark, and UPMC, Italy.

The Conference on eHealth, in conjunction with the European Telemedicine Conference, will gather healthcare organizations, policy makers, companies, clinicians, researchers and universities to offer a comprehensive overview of telemedicine and show how it helps improving healthcare delivery.

ETC will focus on 'How IT and specifically telemedicine can enable continuity of care'. It gives a unique opportunity for all European stakeholders to join the debate and take part in defining the roadmap for continuity of care in Europe, alongside the Italian Presidency.

The Conference on eHealth originates from the consideration that eHealth represents today a strategic lever on which to act to innovate models, processes and clinical pathways generating, simultaneously, fundamental stimulus to the economy and entrepreneurial development both at National and European level. For these reasons, it is necessary to reinforce actions undertaken both at European level and within each Member State, aimed at the diffusion of eHealth as an usual instrument for healthcare professionals, patients and citizens.

"We are very proud ho held the European Telemedicine conference in conjunction with the Conference on eHealth, in Rome. In particular we are delighted that the Italian Minister of Health, Honorable Beatrice Lorenzin, will attend in person the joint session of October 7th, concerning 'Joint Opening Keynote Conference on eHealth and European Telemedicine Conference'. This is a tangible evidence of how fundamental telemedicine and electronic health record are in the European and Italian debate on eHealth," observes Christina Roosen, Vice President and Public Affairs at HIMSS Europe.

"After last year's ETC in Edinburgh, we are confident this year's edition will also be a great opportunity to assess the state-of-the-art of telemedicine in Italy and Europe. Italy was the first country to draft guidelines on the use of telemedicine and gave a strong impulse to its national regions. As a healthcare provider, UPMC is convinced telemedicine will significantly contribute to enhance healthcare delivery by making it more sustainable and by improving patient outcome," says Laura Raimondo, Managing Director of UPMC Italy and Senior Vice President of UPMC International.

ETC follows this year's HIMSS Europe CIO Summit (6-7 October 2014) at the same venue.
