The Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland's Stakeholders Summit

20 November 2013, Dublin, Ireland.
The Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland's Stakeholders Summit is taking place on 20th November 2013 at the Irish Computer Society HQ and Ballsbridge Hotel, Pembroke Road Dublin 4. The summit is a unique one day event featuring plenary sessions and skills workshops on the outcomes of eHealth Week 2013 that was held in Dublin in May of this year.

One of these plenary sessions will look at Horizon 2020 the new EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Delegates will be given unrivalled advice from the two national contacts for the 'Seventh Framework Programme' (FP7), the current EU Research Programme that Horizon 2020 will be replacing. They will be advised on how best to apply for some of the €70bn of funding that is available. Minister for Research and Innovation Seán Sherlock says that Irish Health and ICT sectors are in a good position to attain funding as these are sectors in which Irish researchers have achieved particular success in winning awards under. "Ireland is very well placed to build on this performance in Horizon 2020. I want to see ambitious targets for our participation in Horizon 2020 and I urge everyone concerned to take full advantage of the opportunities to engage in EU- funded research projects."

Two more plenary sessions will feature high profile speakers from both the Health Service and the IT industry. Among these are Department of Health Secretary General Dr Ambrose McLoughlin and Neil O’Hare Director of Informatics at St. James's Hospital. The sessions will include numerous panel discussions providing insight into topics such as an the establishment of the first Irish Ecosystems, the forthcoming eHealth Strategy and Health Information Bills and expert opinions on new Hospital Service Groups.

CEO of the Irish Computer Society Jim Friars commented on the summit saying, "We proved ourselves capable of producing great ideas and opportunities for furthering Healthcare during eHealth Week in May. This is an opportunity for these bright ideas to come to fruition."
