European Telemedicine Conference Announced

29 - 30 October 2013, Edinburgh, UK.
HIMSS Europe, Odense University Hospital, NHS 24 and UPMC have announced a new partnership alliance, responsible for the organisation and execution of a new annual European Telemedicine conference. The event will be focusing on practical telemedicine, telecare and mobile health implementations, best practices, research, development, innovation, - all with a universal application.

The first conference is to be held in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland on October 29, 2013 and will be merged with the annual national Scottish Telehealth and Telecare conference, jointly hosted by NHS 24's Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare and the Scottish Government's Joint Improvement Team. Professor George Crooks, Medical Director, NHS 24 stated: "We are very proud of the progress we have made in implementing at-scale telehealth and telecare services in Scotland, supported by a strong strategic commitment from the Scottish Government, NHS Boards and Local Authorities. We are therefore delighted to be the host country and partner for the first European Telemedicine Conference. The conference will provide an opportunity to showcase best practice in telehealth and telecare from across Europe."

The conference will be subsequently held in Milan in 2014 and in Odense in 2015. Attendees of the conference can attend all conference sessions and there will also be an exhibition.

The four parties issued a shared statement: "The launch of this conference is a strong indication that Europe is taking a global leadership role in telemedicine and that we stand stronger together than alone. We want to create a platform for all stakeholders to share success stories and challenges cross borders with the objective to create high-quality, integrated and sustainable health and social care solutions for Europe."

The conference will be the place to meet for health and social care managers and practitioners, third and independent sector care providers, IT professionals, government & regional decision makers, academics, researchers, innovators and vendors.
