Scientists from the EU-funded RECEPTRONICS project are turning to nature, and combining what they learn with the latest in nanotechnology, to find new ways of diagnosing cancer. The project, funded by the EU with EUR 1.99 million under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), brings together experts from four European countries in the fields of biochemistry, bioengineering, nanotechnology and information technology.

HAMAMHAMAM - European Highly Accurate Breast Cancer Diagnosis through Integration of Biological Knowledge, Novel Imaging Modalities, and Modelling - consists of 9 project partners from 7 countries with leading expertise in the field of breast imaging diagnosis, with EIBIR as the coordinating partner.

As part of the EU initiative to promote better quality and more economically efficient solutions for the provision of health and social services, an innovative project with participants from five European countries has been launched, with Tunstall Healthcare Ltd leading the technical work. The CommonWell project aims to support independent living and improve the quality of life for older people and those with long-term conditions.

e-Inclusion - Be Part of it!The winners of the 2008 European e-Inclusion Awards were announced last night at the e-Inclusion Ministerial Conference in Vienna, the concluding event of the Commission's "Be Part of it!" campaign. Seven European initiatives have been selected for their innovative uses of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to promote digital and social inclusion in Europe.

The GAP Project's goal is to assess the need and the means for a "generic predictive model" for an ICT system capable to produce health alarms at EU level and design a roadmap for the future research on ICT tools for Guard (Detection), Anticipation and Prediction of potential large scale threats.
