Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has successfully implemented a new patient administration system (PAS). Silverlink PAS replaced the previous McKesson TotalCARE system which the trust had been using for 17 years. The trust had been planning for the new system since the seven-year contract was awarded to Stalis Ltd in December 2011. It included the use of the STALIS CareXML® product for the data migration and business intelligence systems.

The EU SME eHealth Competition is an initiative that rewards the best eHealth solutions produced by European Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This 2014 competition organized by TICBioMed has the endorsement of the Health and Wellbeing Unit of the European Commission. The Competition recognizes the best eHealth SMEs at European level. They get visibility together with marketing opportunities to attract customers, partners and external capital.

SMEs developing new healthcare technology have until 6 February 2014 to submit entries to this year’s European e-health competition, a satellite event of the internationally renowned World of Health IT conference (WoHIT). Organised by Spanish Healthcare cooperative TIC Biomed, with support from the European Commission, the contest rewards small to medium-sized developers of the best technology-based healthcare solutions.

New research from doctors.net.uk has revealed that GPs' use of electronic prescriptions is gaining momentum. An online survey of 834 GPs in England found that 15% of respondents had already switched to EPS R2, with 25% of those not currently using electronic prescriptions planning to upgrade in 2014.
