The inventors of biodegradable plastics, DNA fingerprinting and a new HIV drug are among 12 individuals and groups nominated for the European Inventor of the Year Award 2007.

The award, which is now in its second year, was set up by the European Commission and the European Patent Office.

For the first time the European ICT Prize awards ceremony took place at CeBIT, the world's largest ICT trade fair in Hannover, Germany.
