North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) has signed a long-term agreement for use of the Alcidion Miya Precision platform, to provide an electronic patient record (EPR) for the trust. The trust joins two others in the region delivering benefits for patient care with the support of technology from Alcidion.

The modular EPR will enhance digital maturity and support clinicians as they deliver high quality, safe patient care.

Leading chief nursing information officer Sam Neville is joining the Highland Marketing advisory board. Sam brings a passion for nursing and safety to the board, which debates the big issues in NHS IT and advises the specialist health tech agency and its clients.

She has been a nurse for 30 years and became interested in the potential of digital in healthcare when she led an e-NEWS scoring implementation at what is now Mid and South Essex NHS Trust. The image exchange portal, widely known in the NHS as the IEP, is now being used to share as many as 500 images each second - including x-rays, CT, MRI, ultrasound scans and more.

The system was first introduced into the NHS in 2009, to allow trusts to share images with each other. Greater reliance on the independent sector to help to tackle diagnostic backlogs, and an increase in patients requesting access to their own images, have contributed to a growth in use of the portal, as more images move beyond organisational boundaries.
